LightMote

Privacy Policy & Support

LightMote collects no data whatsoever. There is no account, no server, and no analytics. Nothing you do in the app leaves your device.

What the app stores

Your lights, names, colours, scenes, schedules and settings are saved locally on your iPhone and, if you use the watch app, on your Apple Watch. This data is never transmitted to us, because there is nowhere for it to go , LightMote has no backend of any kind.

Permissions and why they are asked for

Every permission is optional except Bluetooth, and the app will simply not offer the related feature if you decline.

Third parties

There are none. LightMote contains no advertising, no tracking SDKs, and no analytics frameworks. Nothing is shared with anyone, because nothing is collected.

Apple

If you buy the app, Apple processes the purchase. We never see your payment details or your Apple Account. Apple's own privacy policy covers that transaction.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page.

Include your iPhone model, iOS version, and the make and model of your bulbs. It helps a lot.

Common questions

My bulbs don't appear when I scan.
LightMote needs Philips Hue bulbs with Bluetooth built in, which means models made in 2019 or later. Bulbs older than that use Zigbee only and cannot be reached without a Hue Bridge. Also check that the bulb is powered on, that you are in the same room, and that no other app or phone is currently connected to it. Bluetooth bulbs accept one connection at a time.

Colour does nothing.
White-only bulbs switch and dim but have no colour capability. Colour features need a colour-capable bulb.

It stops working when I leave the house.
Bluetooth is short range, roughly ten metres. Control from away requires a Hue Bridge, which LightMote also supports if you own one.

How many bulbs can I use?
Bluetooth handles about ten bulbs in one room. Beyond that you need a Bridge.

How do I get "Hey Siri, lights on"?
Open Shortcuts, tap +, add LightMote's "Turn lights on" action, then rename the shortcut to "Lights on". A shortcut's name is the phrase Siri listens for. Repeat with "Turn lights off".

The widget shows no controls.
Touch and hold the widget, tap Edit Widget, and switch on the controls you want. If options look missing, remove the widget and add it again , iOS caches the old configuration.
