Questions, answered

Can I control Philips Hue bulbs without a Bridge?

Yes. Every Hue bulb made since 2019 has Bluetooth built in, and LightMote talks to them directly from your iPhone. Switch, dim and change colour with no Bridge, no hub and no account.

How do I get a light switch on my Home Screen?

Install LightMote, tap “Find my lights” to pair, then add the LightMote widget to your Home Screen. Long-press the widget to choose exactly which controls it shows.

Does it work with Siri?

Yes. “Turn on my lights with LightMote” works immediately. For a shorter phrase, create a Shortcut named “Lights on” and just say “Hey Siri, lights on”.

Which bulbs work?

Philips Hue Bluetooth bulbs from 2019 onwards. Pre-2019 bulbs are Zigbee-only and won't connect without a Bridge. White bulbs switch and dim; colour needs colour bulbs. Common Bluetooth LED strips (ELK-BLEDOM, Triones, Magic Blue) have experimental support.

Is there a subscription?

No. $5.99, once. No ads, no account, no upsells. Every feature is included.

What can't Bluetooth do?

It reaches about 10 metres and roughly 10 bulbs, and only works while you're home. If you need control from anywhere or a big multi-room setup, that's what the Hue Bridge is for, and LightMote supports that too.
